In 2008, The Duquesne Chess Club humbly began with a handful of members in a closet-sized classroom. Through the original member's dedication the foundation was laid for future success of the chess club. Today the club has over 25 active members and an accomplished competitive team.

The Chess Club welcomes all Duquesne Students regardless of their chess knowledge to join the club!  Our mission statement is "to make the right moves on and off the boards". The club plays an active role in student life, chess tournaments and service. The club's primary focus is to provide an outlet for members of the Duquesne community to play chess. We also provide instruction for anyone interested in learning the game. The club has a team that competes against local chess clubs and Universities (see Team page). Participation on the team is not required for club membership. In fact most club members do not compete in tournaments. We also try to partake in one service project each semester. In the past the club has volunteered in the annual Duquesne Spring Clean Up.
